You’ve just finished perfecting your latest blog post.
It has everything. An attention-grabbing title. An alluring intro. And it’s dense with valuable content.
You can throw it up on your blog, send out a couple tweets, put it out to your circles on Google+ and call it a day…
Or you could hustle.
Because like it or not, getting something to go viral is hard work. I know you’ve heard magical stories of effortless viral successes, but don’t believe them.
Behind every viral success is a lot of strategy and even more hard work.
The Internet is dizzyingly full of content. It’s estimated there are over 2 million new blog posts each day. And everyone is suffering from information overload. Your audience has 99 problems but more content is not one.
So if you want to stand out you need to work for it.
You can’t sit back and expect the right people to stumble on your blog. You have to find the places where your audience hangs out and put your content in front of them.
But the good news for content creators is that the Internet is full of micro-communities where like-minded people meet and talk about their niche. And if you know where to look, you can start adding to these conversations.
That’s what this post is all about.
In the first section I’ll give you all the places you can promote your latest blog post. And in the second section I’ll tell you how to squeeze every ounce of value out of it through repurposing.
6 Places to Repost Your Content
When posting to these communities keep 1 thing in mind: relevance.
Don’t go running into them like a bull in a china shop. If your content doesn’t fit or isn’t allowed within the community, don’t post it.
Spamming a community with unwanted content is never going to get you the traffic you want.
And when you do find an ideal group, don’t just jump in and submit your post. Before you contribute, take the time to listen, get a feel for the community and add value.
Then link to yourself when it’s relevant.
1. Submit to Social Media Communities
The groups on social media are my favorite place to promote a new blog post. There’s thousands of tight-knit communities full of influencers that you can freely contribute to.
The great thing about these groups is that it doesn’t matter how big your following is, you can drive a ton of leads to your blog. But don’t just join the communities to syndicate your content.
Start by joining all the communities most relevant to you. Then pick a couple for each platform that you want to focus on.
First check out the community guidelines. Then take the time to listen. Scroll through the feed and look for posts that do well and the ones that flop. Engage with other people’s post. Make connections and befriend the most active people.
If you take the time to do this before you promote your content, you’ll be in a better position. I found that just by being an active member you tend to receive much more engagement and activity on your posts.

2. Submit to Blogging Networks
Blogging networks connect you to communities of bloggers in your niche.
These bloggers are your teammates. And at times you’ll find they can be your greatest asset. By establishing a connection with them and engaging with their content, they’ll start to return the favor.
Then you’ll have groups of bloggers with the same audience, sending you their high-quality traffic. These partnerships are critical to your growth and many blogs have been built by them.
These sites often store thousands of articles across a wide-spectrum of topics. Make sure you do the proper searches to find the best topics for your content.
3. Submit to Marketing/Business Communities
If you talk about anything that pertains to marketing or business, there’s active communities with dedicated readers just waiting for your content. These communities discuss everything from content marketing to social media to email marketing to SEO.
And all these communities let anyone contribute content.
Since anyone can syndicate content, these sites tend to be pretty competitive. But if you can get a couple upvotes within the first half-hour or so, you can put your content on a fast track to success.
These sites also have newsletters and other services with a wide reach. So if your content does get picked up, you can drive a good deal of traffic to your blog.
4. Email Influencers
Everyone has email. It’s the one channel in the information era that still has our attention. But a lot people don’t use it to promote their content.
But that’s a mistake.
By reaching out to thought-leaders with content that’s relevant to your audience, you can get them to share your content across their wide network.
But like with the communities, if you want to increase your chances of success make a connection before you ask for anything.
Leave them a couple comments on their blog. Reach out to them on Google+. Engage with them on Twitter. If you do this before asking, your proposition becomes much harder to say no to.
Gregory Ciotti from Moz did a case study and found that influencers he had at least 1 contact (a tweet, a comment, etc) were 63% likely to share a post, while people who he hadn’t engaged with were only 18% likely to share.
Also keep the emails short and sweet. These people have a lot going on.
Brian Dean of Backlinko wrote about a case study where Richard Marriot wrote to 115 influencers and got 47 replies. He credited the high response rate to the fact that the email was only 67 words long (Shout out to Quicksprout for the above studies).
An outreach email should look something like this:
I noticed that you shared a post by [Blogger Name] about [Post Title].
I have a similar post called [Title] that also argues that [Topic].
Here’s the post: [Link to post]
Just thought I’d let you know.
– Your Name
If cold-calling and asking for a share isn’t your thing, here’s a couple excuses to reach out:
- You mentioned them
- You quoted them
- You linked to them
- They’ve written something similar
- They’ve shared something similar
- They’ve linked to something similar
5. Post on Medium
Medium is a new publishing platform started by Twitter founder Biz Stone.
It allows anyone to log in and publish content in minutes. It has an awesome visual editor and a massive audience of avid readers.
After you hit publish you can submit your post to a variety of topics. And with hundreds of categories, no matter what you talk about you can find an audience that suits you.
And if your content gets picked up by Medium’s editors, they’ll feature you in their newsletter and you’ll get an influx of traffic to your post. And if you include a bio and link, you can funnel some of the leads back to your blog.
I use Medium to repost my best posts with a link back to where the content was originally posted.
6. Post on Quora
Quora is quickly becoming known as the home of the thought-leader. This fast-growing social network is like Yahoo Answers on steroids.
It’s a place where novices can ask experts any question they want. And with everyone from celebrities to Fortune 500 CEOs to scientists answering questions, the platform has become the best place to grow your influence on a subject.
Anyone who wants to be an Authority needs to get on Quora and start answering questions.
But that’s not all. A new feature in Quora lets you to start a blog under their umbrella. So in addition to answering questions, you can now repost your content on a Quora blog.
I have yet to do this, but I know prestigious bloggers like James Clear who have had success doing so.
7. Like it on Stumbleupon
Stumbleupon is one of the top social media referral sources on the web, driving more traffic than Reddit, LinkedIn and Google+.
Stumbleupon is a social bookmarking site that lets people share and recommend websites. Millions of people use the platform to guide them through the Internet. So if you can get your content into their “loop”, you can send hoards of organic traffic to your site.
All you have to do is to get people to start “Liking” your page.
Start by joining Stumbleupon and filling out your profile and interests. Make sure you upload a profile image and include links to your blog.
Then “Like” some of your content and other content that’s similar to you. Then follow all the people relevant to your niche. Once you have people following you back, you can share your content with them.
If you can get a couple of them to “Like” your content, you’re in business.
Stumbleupon may take a bit of an upfront investment before you see a return. But once you get your content in their system, you can drive some serious traffic to your blog.
But beware, Stumblers are a very finicky source of traffic. Most of the traffic you see from Stumbleupon will bounce within the first 10 seconds.
8 Ways to Repurpose Your Content
The best way to give a piece of content extra legs is to repurpose it. Your attention is precious and sometimes you just don’t have the time or the energy to create more amazing content.
That’s where repurposing comes into play.
Repurposing helps you save time and money by taking your best stuff and turning it into more awesome content. This helps you squeeze every bit of value out of your time.
Creating amazing content is hard work. So when you do come up a piece of killer content, you shouldn’t let it die after a blog post.
Repurposing helps you extend the reach of your content. It helps you spin one golden idea into a variety of mediums. In doing so, it helps you access more channels and ultimately casts your ideas into a much wider net.

8. Guest Post
Guest posting on blogs in your niche is the best way to grow a new blog. It builds inbound links, grows your authority and drives loads of traffic to your site.
Instead of creating your next guest post from scratch, take your most popular post and build on it. Keep the core content and essence of the post, but tweak it a little.
You’ll find it’s much easier to take content you already have and turn it into something new, than to create something from scratch. And since the content has already been proven to perform with your audience, you know it’ll perform with a similar audience in your niche.
Podcasts tend to be an effective medium because they are so easy to consume. Your audience can listen to them while they’re commuting, working out or even use it as background noise while they work.
Just pop on some headphones, hit play and let the words flow over you. Effortless.
And turning a blog post into a podcast is as easy as it gets. Just create a script and read it aloud. If you don’t want to use your own voice you can even use a service like Fiverr to find a professional to do it for cheap.

Slideshows are a new form of online content that people are really starting to take to. It started with speakers uploading their slides after a presentation, but has quickly become much more.
Slideshare can largely be credited with fostering the growth of this new medium. It’s a community run by Linkedin that was built around slideshows. And according to Alexa it’s one of the top 150 sources of traffic on the Internet.
Well-designed slideshows with high-quality content can get a ton of views. Plus creating a slideshow from a blog post couldn’t be easier. As long as you have Powerpoint, Keynote or another client, creating a slideshow is simple and affordable.

Youtube is the second largest search engine in the world.
A lot of bloggers dismiss video because they think they need a ton of time and resources to create a video, but that’s just not true.
Creating a video can be painless. In fact, if you followed the last two suggestions on this list, you can combine your podcast with your slides to create an engaging video.
And if you just have the podcast, you can turn it into a video by using a static image as the background. Or if you just have a slideshow you can put music to them and have it rotate through. Or you can just use your computer’s webcam to record yourself talking about your content.
There are tons of videos on Youtube that use the above techniques successfully to drive thousands and even millions of views. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you need to spend a ton of money to create a mastered video to drive traffic.

Another way to make the most out of your blog posts is to turn them into an ebook.
Ebooks let your audience dive into a topic. They are usually detailed guides or case studies that give a cohesive narrative of a subject. Because of this, people tend to value ebooks much more than the average blog post.
While blog posts can only be so long and give so much information, ebooks can go into detail and give as many examples as needed.
They also let your audience read at their own pace. And if your ebook is in PDF format, it allows your audience to download them to their smart devices so they can access them at their leisure for offline reading.
Or you can use an ebook as evergreen content by hosting it on your own site and letting it drive inbound leads for years to come.

14. Autoresponder Email Course
A great way to extend long-form content like an ebook is to turn it into an Autoresponder course. For example, if you have an ebook with 7 chapters, you can break each chapter up into an email and create a week long series.
This is a great way to break up a large chunk of information into something more manageable.
It also gives you some collateral to use to collect emails. By offering a free course, you have tangible value to offer your audience for their email. Neil Patel does this with his 30 day email course on Quick Sprout.
And because email tends to be the most reliable way to reach someone online, email courses can be very effective.
15. Host a Webinar or G+ Hangout
Webinars and Hangouts are one of the best ways to drive engagement around a topic. They are live videos, podcasts, or slideshow presentations that people can tune into and comment on.
Since they are live events, they tend to generate a lot of buzz around them. For best results, think about inviting someone else from your niche to participate in the webinar.
By combining forces you can pull of an event that drives engagement and traffic to each of your blogs. And after you finish you can even turn it into a video for Youtube.
Content is king. But if you don’t put the work in to promote your content, it’ll never be seen. And in the information era you need to hustle if you want to be heard.
Because everyone is talking. But with thousands of communities dedicated to helping you connect with your audience, you just need to know where to look.
